Designed by Willy Messerschmitt, the ME 109 first flew in May 1935. This single seat fighter was first operated by the Luftwaffe during the Spanish Civil War and throughout WW2. Overall, the ME 109 was the most produced fighter in history, with a total number of 33,984 airframes produced between 1936 and 1945. Armed with 2 machine guns and a single canon, The ME 109 was fast and light. Its tall, narrow-tracked undercarriage caused many accidents during landing and take off however, causing approximately 10% of all 109’s demise
