Sea King
The Sea King is a twin engined helicopter, manufactured by Sikorsky Aircraft. The type was designed to counter the increasing threat of Russian submarines during the 1950’s. Entering into service with the United States Navy in 1961, The Sea King has been a valuable asset both as a submarine hunter-killer, search and rescue platform and a transport/utility aircraft. Although the US Navy retired the type in 2006, the Sea King still enjoys a healthy service life with many foreign military forces and civil operators alike and has been built under licence by other manufacturers such as Augusta, Mitsubishi and the UK’s own Westland.
